I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Noise.
There's a lot of noise. And not in the physical sense such as the noise of humans moving about in the world.
Non-physical noise.
The inner chatter from your own thoughts.
The noise of other people's expectations and projections.
Energetic noise.
There is the noise of social media, people competing for your attention in a tiny window, on a tiny screen.
There is the noise of expectation that you stand out from the crowd, that you compete, that you influence.
Other people want, expect you, to live your life according to how they would live it.
Noise.
Globalization and the internet have brought people closer together in some ways, and in others, further apart.
More noise.
In the last couple of weeks, I've developed something akin to a mantra. A refrain I've been telling myself.
Tune out the noise.
As soon as I feel a part of myself being pulled, I return back to this refrain -
Tune out the noise.
It's easy to listen to the mental chatter that's stirred up when we allow ourselves to be directed by the expectations of others, by the social constructs that are not truly in alignment with our highest calling.
There is a difference between the pressure to grow and the pressure to capitulate to some irrelevant expectation.
The rest is noise.
Follow your heart, follow your soul.
The rest will take care of itself.
